The cycle of the six Children's suites for bayan by Wladislaw Solotarjow is unique of its kind. In his music for children and young people he continues the tradition of such composers as Robert Schumann, Peter I. Tschaikowskij, Sergej Prokoffieff, Aram Chatschaturjan and Dimitrij Kabalewskij.

Friedrich Lips’ latest CD ‘The Last Supper’ has a strong Christian theme, featuring music that concerns the treachery of Judas at the Feast of the Last Supper – ‘The Passion of Judas’, by Michael Bronner; the events of Christ’s Crucifixion – ‘Seven Words’, by Sofia Gubaidulina; and JS Bach’s ‘Hymn – Prelude’.

Both concert symphonies, Nr. 1 and Nr. 2, by Vl. Zolotariev convey a completely new picture of this composer's talent. However, many works for classical music and choirs are still waiting to be performed, among them the oratory "Red-letter days of the Revolution" for four choirs, soloists, a narrator and symphonic orchestra, as well as the poem "Martin Eden" (after Jack London) for alto and chamber orchestra, two string quartets...

Sergej Berinskij (1946) - Three pieces in "mauvais" style (1992) L'amour! Kchoo?! Partando Vulp (nobody knows what that is supposed to mean). Each of these titles sounds rather abstract and they have nothing to do with their concrete, metaphorical contents, however, they arouse one's imagination and initiate people's emotional perception. The oeuvre demands a rather temperamental performance, emotions most erupt from one's inside to the outside.

This CD by Friedrich Lips is dedicated to his interpretations of Russian Music. Friedrich Lips arranged all the works for piano of all important composers of the 19th century (M. Mussorgski, S. Rachmaninow, A. Borodin, A. Ljadow, W. Rebikow, A. Iljinski, N. Bogoslowski, A. Rubinstein) for Bayan.

The cycle for piano "Pictures of an Exhibition" was written by the famous Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874, as a reaction to the death of his close friend V. Hartmann. Mussorgsky created this brilliant œuvre for piano because he was highly impressed by Hartmann's drawings, which he happened to see at an exhibition after the artist's death. Many famous pianists have included this cycle in their repertoire.

Sergej Berinsky (1946-1998) - Il dolce dolore (1990) Sergej Berinsky wrote this romantic and extremely beautiful oeuvre for violoncello and bajan immediately after the well-known Partita "Thus spoke Zarathustra". Translated from Italian, the title meaning "Sweet Pain" already hints - to a certain extent - at some erotic contents.

Just a few years before his death Mozart composed two phantasies for a small mechanic organ - for an organ in a clock: Fantasia Nr.1, f-minor, KV 594 (adagio-allegro-adagio) which was written in 1790. Scarlatti's Sonatas enrich not only the pedagogical repertoire of bajanists but also their concerts to a great extent.

LIPS CD NO COMMENT, named after the work of the Lithuanian composer Merab Gagnidze, represents an interesting mixture of works of most different character. In it music by Schnittke and Khatchaturjan (arranged by Lips) can be found as well as original works by Berinsky and Derbenko, dedicated to the artist. Miniatures by Solotarjov, Shurbin, Precz and Londonov complete the varied program of this CD, which gets its special freshness from two live-recordings.

This CD's music is marked by pleading and suffering -"Miserere" meaning "God, have mercy upon us!" The "Gothic Suite" is the best-known oeuvre of the French organist and composer Léon Boëllmann who only had a short life. The music is schematically structured: it begins with "Introduction-Choral" and consequently culminates - together with "Minuet" and "Prayer" - in a "Toccata", like the graphic vaults of a Gothic cathedral: towards the sky and God.

Wonderful performances of music by Astor Piazzolla performed by the ensemble "Piazzolla-Studio" consisting of: Friedrich Lips is People's Artist of Russia, professor at the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow. F.Lips did the first performances of about 70 bayan works of Russian composers.

J.S. Bach's congenial "Chaconne" is the finale of the Partita (fullscore) Nr. 2 in d-minor for solo violin. In the concert hall the "Chaconne" became well known its transcription for piano by F. Busoni. The arrangement of the"Chaconne" for bajan is based on the piano transcription, taking into consideration the original style of this piece, as well as the characteristic features of the bajan.

The present CD consists of various miniatures used by Friedrich Lips as an encore at his concerts. In this way the virtuoso thanks his public, to which he owes his position as an internationally renowned artist on his instrument, for its fidelity for almost 30 years.

This CD is particularly interesting as it exclusively contains - except for the Sonata N. 1 by G. Bantshikov from 1977 - oeuvres for bayan written in 21st century. Composer G. Bantshikov from Petersburg is one of Russia's most important composers. He composed operas, ballets, symhonies, cantatas for choirs, and chamber music for various instruments among which you find four sonatas for bayan.

C. Franck is one of the rare composers of organ music who can be spoken of in the same breath withJohann Sebastian Bach. In 1890 Franck composed the "Trois Chorals", his homage to Bach. The third "Choral", in a minor, is a three movement work and opens with a Prelude. The central section, an adagio in A Major, is a contrasting cantilena. The mood of the opening section returns in the concluding section, which contains elements of all that came before and ends in A Major.

The works of the Spaniards I. Albeniz and E. Granados, the Cuban E. Lecuona and the Brazilian H. Villa-Lobos are well known in their versions for piano, guitar and also symphony orchestras. In this case these works have been recorded in F. Lips' transcriptions for bajan. The bewitching miniatures by the Argentine composer A. Piazzolla carry us away into the immortal world of the tango.

CINEMA - The CD's program exclusively consists of original oeuvres for bayan written in the late 20th century. The name "Cinema" represents a uniting idea and implies a kaleidoscope of pictures, actions, characters and surprising effects. Sergei Berinsky's "CINEMA" was ordered bv the Accordion Association of Guipuzcoa (Spain) and the test piece at the international competition in Arrasate in 1996.

Wonderful performances of music by Astor Piazzolla performed by the ensemble "Piazzolla-Studio" consisting of: Friedrich Lips (accordion), Vladislav Igolinsky (violin), Kirill Rodin (double bass), Svjatoslav Lips (piano) plus musicians who took part in the ensemble "Piazzolla-Studio" in different years: Vladimir Tonkha (double bass), Mark Pekarsky (percussion), Nikolay Lgovsky (percussion), Friedrich Lips writes: When, in the seventies, I happened to discover some notes and discs of your tangos, I began to adore you and your music.

K. Wolkow's "Stichira of Lwan the Terrible" for bayan and cello is based on a religious verse expressed by the Russian trar: "Even though you conquer the world, death carries you off secretly in the end, so why have you sacrificed your soul for your body?" Loann Vasiljevich, Tsar and Grand Prince of Russia. As usual the composer uses old Russianmelodies and rhythms. The music shows, to a great extent, recitative and outstanding character.
