SARA GALAS BAND

(ITALIANO) La SARA GALAS BAND, duo di musica world, viene fondata a New York nell’ottobre 2012 da Sara Galassini, artista interdisciplinare toscana che vive e lavora negli Stati Uniti dall’anno 2000 e Yukio Tsuji, poli-strumentista e compositore giapponese-americano (Shakuhachi, chitarra, percussioni, sintetizzatore) che vive e lavora negli Stati Uniti dagli anni ’80.
La collaborazione musicale tra Galassini e Tsuji mostra una forte alchimia, una vasta versatilità di stili ed una profonda teatralità che fa della loro performance un’esperienza al di la del concerto, un viaggio attraverso i linguaggi del suono, della parola poetica e del gesto.
Il duo collabora con diversi musicisti esibendosi così anche in trio, quartetto o quintetto. La Sara Galas Band ha suonato in teatri e locali di New York tra cui lo storico teatro de La MaMa ETC, Dixon Place, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe’, Japan Society, the Sheen Center, Cafe Vivaldi, la Great Hall di Cooper Union.
Nell’estate 2012 il duo suona al 54esimo Festival dei Due Mondi per lo spettacolo “la MaMa Tribute” ed al Fringe Spoleto Festival, occasione nella quale vengono accompagnati dal violinista Marko Zoranovik e da Mamadou Ba al djembe’.
In aprile 2013 la Sara Galas Band viene invitata a suonare alla Cite’ di Firenze per una speciale collaborazione con due musicisti italiani di grande talento, il clarinettista jazz Mirco Mariottini ed il fisarmonicista Alberto Becucci.
Il 5 di maggio 2013 la Sara Galas Band va in onda al TG2 Dossier “Big Italy” come rappresentante della cultura italiana all’estero, il servizio di Manuela Moreno e Michele Petruzziello dedicato agli artisti italiani in America.
Alla fine del 2013 il duo registra la prima Demo contenente 4 pezzi originali e nel 2014 produce lo spettacolo interdisciplinare “Unmeasurable Picture” diretto da Sophie Bortolussi e scritto da Sara Galassini intorno ad alcuni dei pezzi originali della Band. Sara Galassini e l’interprete principale insieme alla danzatrice di flamenco messicana Maria Elena Anaya, Yukio Tsuji è il direttore musicale, arrangiatore e musicista insieme a Claudio Scarabottini, Bill Ruyl e Yuka Tadano.
Insieme Galassini e Tsuji hanno ideato ed eseguito altri 3 spettacoli teatrali interdisciplinari: “Waves of all times”, “Origin: a Performance Art Concert”e “REFLECT-I-ON”.
Al momento stanno sviluppando un nuovo lavoro ispirato al mito di Persefone e Demetra intitolato Pros-(Her)-Pere. 

Progetto di Musica e Poesia, del Gesto e del Suono Transoceanico
La Sara Galas Band sono i colori e la passionalità del mediterraneo uniti ai respiri della spiritualità Giappone che si incontrano tra ritmi frenetici della multiculturalità Newyorkese.
Il progetto nasce dall’incontro tra l’artista interdisciplinare Sara Galassini con il compositore e musicista Yukio Tsuji sui palchi off e off off Broadway del teatro sperimentale di New York. È qui che i due scoprono di condividere una forte passione per la musica world ed il desiderio di unire le proprie voci attraverso la canzone d’autore.
Una forte alchimia, una vasta versatilità di stili ed una profonda teatralità sono alcuni degli ingredienti principali che fa della loro performance musicale un’esperienza al di l del concerto per proporre un viaggio attraverso i linguaggi del suono, della poesia e del gesto.
Gli arrangiamenti di Tsuji sottolineano i testi di Galassini in italiano ed inglese con maestria ed ingegno musicale. Il fluire delle loro voci è un dialogare drammatico costante che offre un panorama di realtà e dimensioni multiple per raccontare la condizione umana attraverso narrazioni di sogni, speranza, amore, figure mitiche ed archetipe.
L’energia ed il sentimento della chitarra acustica, delle percussioni e degli strumenti etnici insieme al suono ipnotico e la forza poetica della voce ed interpretazione di Galassini propongono un viaggio sonoro che celebra la fusione di melodie sublimi e vasti orizzonti musicali che abbracciando i sensi.

(ENGLISH) The SARA GALAS BAND world music duo was founded in New York in October 2012 by Sara Galassini, an interdisciplinary artist from Tuscany, Italy who lives and workes in New York since the year of 2000, and Yukio Tsuji, a Japanese-American poly-instrumentalist and composer (Shakuhachi, guitar, percussion, synthesizer) who lives and works in New York since the 1980s.
The musical collaboration between Galassini and Tsuji shows a strong alchemy, a vast versatility of styles and a profound theatricality that makes their performance an experience beyond the concert, a journey through the languages ​​of sound, poetry and gesture.
The duo collaborates with various musicians performing as a trio, quartet or quintet. The Sara Galas Band has performed in New York theaters and venues including the historic theater of La MaMa ETC, Dixon Place, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Japan Society, the Sheen Center, Cafe Vivaldi, the Great Hall of Cooper Union.
In the summer of 2012 the duo played at the 54th Festival dei Due Mondi for the show “la MaMa Tribute” and at the Fringe Spoleto Festival collaborating with violinist Marko Zoranovik and percussionist Mamadou Ba.
In April 2013 the Sara Galas Band was invited to play at the Cite of Florence for a special collaboration with two very talented Italian musicians, jazz clarinetist Mirco Mariottini and accordionist Alberto Becucci.
On the 5th of May 2013 the Sara Galas Band aired at TG2 Dossier “Big Italy” as representatives of Italian culture in America.
At the end of 2013 the duo recorded the first Demo containing 4 original songs and in 2014 produced the interdisciplinary show “Unmeasurable Picture” directed by Sophie Bortolussi and written by Sara Galassini. the performance was created around some of the Band’s original songs. Sara Galassini was the main performer together with the Mexican flamenco dancer Maria Elena Anaya, Yukio Tsuji was the musical director and arranger as well as one of the musicians together with Claudio Scarabottini, Bill Ruyl and Yuka Tadano.
Galassini and Tsji have designed and performed 3 more interdisciplinary performances: “Waves of all times”, “Origin: a Performance Art Concert” and “REFLECT-I-ON”.
At the moment they are developing a new work inspired by the myth of Persephone and Demeter entitled Pros- (Her) -Pere.

Transoceanic Music and Poetry Project
The Sara Galas Band are the colors and the passion of the Mediterranean combined with the breaths of Japan’s spirituality that meet between the frenetic rhythms of New York multiculturalism.
At times a dynamic Duo, at times a Trio, Quartet or Quintet whose eclectic sound and compositions are rooted in many musical traditions fusing many genres and styles to create rhythmic and melodic motifs that belong to world music.
The project stems from the meeting between interdisciplinary artist Sara Galassini with composer and musician Yukio Tsuji on the off and off off Broadway stages of the experimental theater scene in New York. It is here that the two discover to share a strong passion for world music and the desire to combine their voices through a music collaboration.
A strong alchemy, a vast versatility of styles and a profound theatricality are some of the main ingredients that make their musical performance an experience beyond the concert to propose a journey through the languages ​​of sound, poetry and gesture.
Tsuji’s arrangements underscore Galassini’s poetic lyrics in Italian and English with sheer inventiveness and simplicity resonating a distinct spiritual force that is strongly present in Galassini’s words. The flow of their voices is a constant dramatic dialogue that offers a panorama of multiple realities and dimensions to tell the human condition through narratives of dreams, hope, love, mythical figures and archetypes.
Their alchemy is immediately evident. The energy and feeling of the acoustic guitar and the ethnic instruments together with the hypnotic sound and poetic force of Galassini’s voice and interpretation propose a sound journey that celebrates the fusion of sublime melodies and vast musical horizons that embrace the senses.
